Embracing the Art of Self-Pride

Pride in yourself is a powerful feeling that is so often rooted in moments when we step out of our ‘comfort zones’ and look to achieve something new. For me, this journey into self-pride has been painted, quite literally, through the lens of what Will likes to call my 'Art Class'.

This two-hour window has become a little sanctuary of creativity and self-discovery. The idea of painting was initially daunting, the lack of ‘command Z’ is quite a shock to the system. The thought of a blank canvas staring back at me, no brief, no strategy, no guidelines just me and pushing myself to fill it with something I deemed worthy, was intimidating to say the least.

But, it was this very challenge that made it so rewarding. Each brushstroke, each mix of colour, was a step into unfamiliar territory. It wasn't just about creating art; it was about pushing myself and embracing the unknown. It’s not just a lesson in techniques and styles; it's a lesson in letting go. And for two hours, the worries of the world fade away, replaced by me being me and all that entails. It's a time to explore without the fear of failure. And in this process of creation, I'm beginning to rediscover a part of myself that had long been forgotten.

While many of my canvases have been painted over in pursuit of something better, there's one that remains untouched. This lone survivor represents more than just a completed piece of art; it symbolises a victory over self-doubt and hesitation. It's a little insight to my journey of self-pride, tangible proof that stepping out of my comfort zone was worth it.

Being proud of yourself isn't always about grand achievements. Sometimes, it's found in the small moments of courage and creativity. Whether it's picking up a paintbrush, trying a new hobby, or simply taking a moment for yourself, these experiences are invaluable. So, embrace them, celebrate them, and who knows-maybe in another 2 months I’ll have something else to show.
